Progress after one week

I have to say after almost a week working on my website  I learned quite a bit.  Each day I made sure to devote some time to log into the site and click around to figure out how things work on here.  I tell ya, when something worked as I had hoped, it made me feel like a Pro webmaster!  Nice thought, but I have a long way to go before I can wear that label!  The big mystery of the week was inserting those affliliate links and placing them in the right spot (some still need tweeking, but are fine for now).  Here's the how to -  When I am on my website there is a link above the work area named "Insert", click this and then find the link named "script".  This is where you add the code that you had previously copied onto your computer.  You paste the code into this box and click Ok.  Move to your webpage you are working on and the little box script shows and when you preview your page, it will show the actual picture of the link.  I hope this makes sense - the key is to keep practicing around with it.  Nothing officially shows to the public until you hit Publish.  So you can move things around and I should mention the code you are copying comes from the affliate - the account you set up with them.  In my case GoDaddy and Amazon.  I also placed a Fan page link from Facebook using this same procedure on the Submit your link page.  I created the Fan page on Facebook and setting it up was very easy - except it was somewhat difficult to locate where to go to set this page up; if you go to the Advertising link on the bottom of the page that will get you started.  I posted on the Fan page and set it up to link to the Twitter account which it did nicely and saves me the trouble of posting twice.  I added a post inviting people to Submit their links and received two responses which you can see I did add to the page.  I hope to add more in the future.

As I was clicking around, I found under Manage Blog - Settings the link Entries where you can add "Share This icons or chiclets" to your blog posts so the readers can submit the entry (if they want) to either del.icio.us, digg.com, stumbleupon, and/or technorati.  I have been to all these sites and have an account with del.icio.us and technorati which I need to update myself on and the other two I need to investigate.  So they are on my blog entries for those to use to submit ... it's a good thing!  Also added the Twitter widget to the sidebar on the blog by clicking Design Blog, then sidebar and lastly add/delete widgets.  I added my picture to the Bio information and now there is this HUGE looming picture of my face which I definitely need to size down ... goodness gracious!!

I decided to clean out my Favorites on the computer (sites I saved for future reference) and realized I haven't been back to visit many of them in quite a while.  I did revisit my account over at Craftster and this is a great site for crafters to share their projects and give and receive feedback.  I realize that participating in forums and groups of the same interest is a necessity in building my business.  You cannot sell your items on Craftster but it is a great place to connect with others and get some great ideas!

(note to self and others:  when typing a blog entry make sure to hit the "save and continue" button from time to time - otherwise, you may have to retype all your work if it mysteriously disappears on you; like I am doing now)

Speaking of groups and such, I did join the site Blogged yesterday and will spend some time there before I submit my blog.  It appears you follow other blogs and can review them.  I am following a few and one of them is called Daily Blog Tips so I should be able to find some good ideas there.  It was a Great Week and I look forward to another one starting tomorrow!
